One of my favorite things to watch for in the fall are migrating birds heading to their southern homes for the winter and it always makes me think about my favorite poem by Mary Oliver, Wild Geese. I love this poem because of it's gentle reminder that we are a part of the natural world and its rhythms and the solace that brings, and I wanted to bring some of that feeling into this piece through paper collage and quilt motifs. I can think of nothing more comforting and cozy than a quilt. I also imagine that the land must look like a patchwork quilt to a flying goose as she makes her way home.
